Should I use Wix or Squarespace, or get a custom website?

A builder like Wix or Squarespace is fine if you want a simple site, have time to write and update it yourself, and mostly need people to find your number. A custom site makes sense when you want to win searches for many services and towns and want someone keeping it tuned.

Builders are cheap to start, look good out of the box, and you can change things yourself. The catch is that the results depend on your time: someone still has to write the pages, add the photos, and keep up with search. A custom site is built around the searches you want to win and can be faster, but it costs more and needs someone looking after it. Either way, check who owns the site and your domain before you sign up.

For example, a solo detailer just starting out can launch a builder site this weekend. A company with three crews that wants to be the first name in five towns will outgrow it.
